On her fourteenth birthday, Senzo Hikari runs away. There’s no place for her amongst the favored, and she doesn’t want to embarrass her family at the Trials meant to determine her gifts. However, the outlands are nothing like her home inside the Realm. There are no soldiers wielding lightning, or electrified walls to protect her; only savages, monsters, and disease. Still, she’d rather chance life outside the Realm than face her family’s shame when they discover what she is: an Outlier. Shadowless. Invisible in the eyes of God.
